ALERT NEW TOMORROW!

Because I am ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with Etsy.com. Starting tomorrow I am going to start something called "Etsy Friday Favorites" and weekly post my finds that I just LOVE. I mostly window shop, well...because I cannot afford to buy EVERYTHING I love on there... But, I thought it would be fun. You can respond to my posts and if there are any Esty things you find that you JUST HAVE TO share... you can do that too.  I especially like the idea of supporting other mom's who put love into every piece they make by hand on Etsy... I am really excited about it!

PS: If you have an Etsy store you'd like me to check out to consider... let me know!

Funny Story

My kids truly crack me up here is the newest Funny Story!

So, this morning we are all getting ready for school. Braden my 5 yr old Kindergartner was laying on the couch, he didn't want to eat breakfast and said his belly hurt. Well, after asking what was going on/wrong he says this "I don't want to go to school because the kids in my class are going to think I'm not complete."

Oh Lordy Me!!!! He is the oldest child in his class and the first in his class to loose THE first tooth...He didn't want to be the odd man out.

Needless to say, he went to school....lol

Thrifty Thursdays #9!

Land's End is having a 30% off fall sale. I have found two working promotional codes that you can use. They will work on all items on the site, but I suggest using it on the sale items that are already marked down considerably (up to 65%). This can be a GREAT time to stock up on those school uniforms or even backpacks for next school year (put them up in the closet for next year.)

Here are the promotional codes I have found:

Parent Essay Homework

For Nathan's Advanced Language Arts class, his teacher Ms. Boyer assigned us parents homework. We had to write an essay about Nathan. This is the essay I wrote.

A Million Words or Less about Our Son

Nathan Barker

Nathan Joshua is our second born. He has an older brother Jason (13), a younger brother Braden (5) and the baby of the family is his sister Maili (4). Because of this fact, it has taken me some time to complete this assignment for you and I do apologize.

Let me first start off by saying, in the short time that was allotted at Open House, I can tell Nathan is going to really enjoy learning in your class. Your spirit and love of teaching was very apparent and was quite refreshing. I cannot wait to see all this year has in store for Nathan in your class.

Nathan is what you would call “the typical boy.” He loves sports, football the most, yet recently has enjoyed is daily long bike rides with his father and his basketball spars with his neighborhood friends as well.  He has a terrific throwing arm when he throws the football with Dad in the yard and has in the past played tackle football for our local Pop Warner Football Team.

He loves a challenge. Yet, he has problems completing the mundane things of life, such as chores and things he likes to call “boring.” Sometimes with his school work, I have to make him focus to complete it. When he does complete his work he is so excited to show how well he did. He is people pleaser. He loves positive feedback and enjoys lots of praise for any work he has done. He often asks when doing a new chore, “Am I doing good Mom?”  He especially likes to organize things. I cannot tell you the countless times he has organized the Xbox game drawer in our family room’s entertainment center.

Due to having an older brother who has special needs, Nathan has been inherently deemed “The Talker” of the family. See, Jason is only 14 months older and didn’t speak true words until he was over 3 years of age and because of this Jason and Nathan made their own language; their pediatrician at the time said it was like the twin to twin communication you hear of. Nathan would translate to us all of Jason’s needs and wants when us, as his parents, couldn’t understand. Because of this Nathan at home talks and talks and talks some more. In public though, if he is in an uncomfortable position he has been known to completely shut down and not utter a single word out of his mouth.

Nathan is a very caring child. He truly wants for others to do well and I am really honored as his mother that he is constantly concerned about my feelings. He has told me before that “it makes my day when you have a good day Mom.” Because of this though, he cares too much what others think about him. He worries a lot about his clothing and shoes being sociably acceptable. When he was little at the age of five he would say “they’re all going to laugh at me” if I picked something he didn’t want to wear to school. Of course my reaction was, “who are these people? And why would they laugh at you? You are five years old.” Still to this day it takes much effort on his behalf to pick the clothes he wants to wear to school the night before. It can be very frustrating as his mother when bedtime has ticked by and thirty minutes of his sleep time has been depleted because of it.

I can truly go on and on forever about Nathan, but I won’t bore you with countless hours of a mother gloating about her son. In conclusion, Nathan our son is a bright light in our lives. He brings us love, excitement, some frustration and much joy. To say we are grateful every day that he is a part of our family, is an understatement. We feel very blessed that God has given us the honor to call Nathan, son.

A little side note before the recipe: Debbi is a friend of mine since I was in 8th grade. We have grown up with each other and through the years she has become much more than a friend, she is like a sister to me. And in fact she married my husband and I, so she holds a very sweet spot in my heart. With all that being said, I am very proud to have Debbi be a guest recipe submitter for today.

Sorry Guys!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while... I have been dealing with an injured little girl.
This picture was taken of Maili on our way to the doctor's office.

Maili bit the side of the inside of her mouth which caused her mouth to have a dime sized canker sore to form where the injury took place. Then her entire mouth and throat swelled because of it. I have had on the average 1-2 hours a night sleep per night from Tuesday on because of it. She has woken up over and over again through the night because of the pain. I brought her to the doctor and the pediatrician doesn't think she ruptured her tonsils or throat area, THANK GOD! Lots of liquids, because she hasn't been able to eat much and as much rest has a 4 year old will give. She seems to be on the mend. She FINALLY ate something with substance yesterday and today. It will take her some time though. Hopefully she can return to school Tuesday.

10 Ways to be a Happier Mom

My sister posted this on Facebook and I thought I would share it. It was found at:

holy experience

10
Ways to be a Happier Mom

1. Life is not an emergency.
Life’s a gift.
Just. Slow. Down.

2. Now is not a forever grace but amazing grace.
Do whatever it takes to wake to wonder right here.

3. Sometimes the slowest way is the fastest way to joy.
Make time today, even a moment, to read Scripture and memorize it.
Without the lens of His Word, the world warps.
{Slowest=fastest to joy}

4. Laughter is the cheapest, holiest medicine.
Preschoolers laugh 300 times a day. Aim for double that. Tickle someone, (yourself!), if necessary. This is good!

5. Motherhood is a hallowed place because children aren’t commonplace.
Co-laboring over the sculpting of souls is a sacred vocation, a humbling privilege.
Never forget.

6. Homemaking is about making a home, not about making perfection.
A perfect home is an authentic, creative, animated space where Peace and Christ and Beauty are embraced.
{Perfect does not equate to immaculate.}

7. A pail with a pinhole loses as much as the pail pushed right over.
A minute dawdled here, a minute scrolling here — they can add up to your life. Write down your intentions for the day and prayerfully ive the intentions and spend your life well by paying attention to the moments — which pays thanks to God.
A whole life can be lost in minutes wasted, small moments missed.

8. Believe it: I have all I need for today.
The needs of our day are great but our God is greater and we call Him Providence because we believe: He is the One who always provides.
{And when God provides, He should be praised, and if God always provides, shouldn’t praise always be on the lips?}

9. Slow. Children at play.
The hurry hurts the kids.
Time’s this priceless currency and only the slow spend it wise enough to be rich.
If we had to actually buy our time, would we spend it more wisely — spend it more slowly?
{God’s Word never says Hurry Up. God words only whisper: Wake Up.}

10. Love is patient.
Parenting’s this gentle way of bending over in humility to help the scraped child up because we intimately know it takes a lifetime to learn how to walk with Him.
Patience. Love always begins with patience and patience is a willingness to suffer.

Bonus:
The art of really celebrating life isn’t about getting it right – but about receiving Grace.
The sinners and the sick, the broken, the discouraged, the wounded and burdened — we are the ones who get to celebrate grace!
Regardless of the mess of your life, if Christ is Lord of your life, than we are the celebrants out dancing in a wild rain of grace — because when it’s all done and finished, all is well and Christ already said it was finished.

BUMBO RECALL ALERT!!!!

Bumbo Baby Seats get seat belts

4M Bumbos recalled due to risk of babies falling out!

Author: By Aaron Smith

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -
Four million Bumbo Baby Seats are being recalled due to the risk of babies falling out of them, said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday.

But this doesn't mean that parents have to ship the seats back or throw them away. The company is encouraging consumers to order a repair kit that contains a restraint belt for the seat, available for free.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the product until they order and install a free repair kit, which includes: a restraint belt with a warning label, installation instructions, safe use instructions and a new warning sticker," said the CPSC. "The belt should always be used when a child is placed in the seat."

Thrifty Thursdays #3!

This weeks is one that I am using myself! Got some school shoe shopping to do...so while on my hunt for a deal for my big boys this is what I found.

So here's how it works you can either visit online or in-store doesn't matter. The only thing is... this weekend, at least in Florida, it is Tax Free Weekend (on school related items which includes clothes and shoes) AND you do have to pay for shipping if you do it online. I am actually waiting until the weekend to purchase the shoes we need in-store.

The deal is Buy One Get One 1/2 off then the additional 15-20% off depending on if you are a Rewards Member or not. It is free to be a Rewards Member...so it is worth filling out the info online to become one. Plus they will send you coupons quartly as well as for every purchase you earn money back to use on future purchases.

Click on the link https://secure.famousfootwear.com/Profiles/CreateAccount2.aspx to become a Rewards Member. If you plan on being like me and shop this weekend...you can print a coupon for the 15-20% off to use in-store on the website. It is located under the "Search" area on the page.
This deal is valid until 8/11/2012.

There is a way to reserve your shoe choices online to an in-store location if you are a Rewards Member....I'm still trying to figure that out though.

Let me know if you have an active deal you have found this week, feel free to comment below.
