Easy Peasy Weekly Recipe #2

It's Wednesday!
Time for this week's installment of Christie's Easy Peasy Weekly Recipes!

Easy Crockpot Pulled Pork

Ingredients:
  1. A standard sized Pork Butt or Shoulder Roast you pick up at your local grocery store.
  2. Durkee New Orleans Style Old Hickory Smoke (You can find these at the grocery store as well but here is a link to what it looks like and if you wish to buy it in bulk at Amazon.com)
That's all the ingredients you need....Sweet right?

Rinse the Pork Butt/Shoulder. Then score the pork with a sharp knife making 1/4 inch thick cuts all over the pork roast. Sprinkle liberally the Durkee Smoke Seasoning all over the pork roast. Place the pork into a crockpot fat side up (VERY IMPORTANT!) then turn the crockpot on low for 12 to 15 hours depending on the denseness of the roast. The fat of the pork will melt away over time and you will be surprised you do not need any liquid at all like water because the fat will liquefy. When finished turn off the crockpot and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then with a couple of forks shred the pork. It will be so tender, it should just fall apart. That's it!!!! Wah-lah! Your done!

We serve this two different ways in our home. We will mix in our favorite BBQ sauce (which is Sweet Baby Ray's) to make Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches.... OR which is what we do most because my husband was raised in Hawaii....We serve it as Kalua Pig. We do not add anything to the pork at all but we serve it with some boiled cabbage, a Hawaiian mac salad and white California rice made in a rice cooker.

FYI: If you cannot find the Durkee Seasoning... Use about 3-4 tablespoons of Liquid Smoke instead...I have used it before, but you will have to add some sea salt too if you use it. Rub about 2 tablespoons of sea salt all over the roast then cook. We are trying to stay away from high concentrated salt in our foods so we have opted for the seasoning instead.

Let me know what you think!
